Students in Mr. Mann’s and Ms. Davidson’s second-grade classes participated in their first novel study on the book, “Chocolate Fever” by Robert Kimmel Smith. Before beginning the study, students were asked to make predictions and ask questions about the book reading. Students spent time studying the cover and using the web to research their own chocolate recipes. As an accountability assignment, students were to answer discussion questions with a partner using a Kagan strategy, think-pair-share. After the novel study was completed, the classes made their very own “no-bake” chocolate chip cookies.
