Math 360 has become a favorite to students at Duval Charter School at Westside. Instead of just doing paper and pencil math at their desk, the students have questions on task cards attached to their math boards and actually solve the problems on math boards all around the room. The teacher acts as a coach coaching the students in what is wrong with the steps that they are taking to solve their math problems. The students get points/check marks when they are using correct steps to solving the problem. When students hear the teacher giving points for certain things, like “oh great job of simplifying the problem”, that prompts other students to do that as well. The students are also allowed to ask a friend for help on certain problems or steps of the equation. Math 360 also gives the teacher a chance at first glance as to how students are struggling instead of waiting for them to turn in a paper or worksheet at the end of the day.
