Second grade students at DCSW wrapped up their first unit of text features with Text Surgery! Students were able to identify various features in text and understand the purpose for including these features. Each student had a Text Feature handout that gave directions on which text features to look for. Students used an age appropriate newspaper to cut out and paste the text features onto their work page. To make the lesson more engaging, students were to be completely silent and concentrate on the surgery at hand. There were to be no distractions in the operating room!
